Maintaining your vehicle’s braking system is crucial for safety and performance, and the 2021+ Ford Bronco is no exception. In this blog post, we'll walk you through the process of replacing the brake pads on your Ford Bronco, including how to enter and exit Brake Maintenance Mode.

Entering Brake Maintenance Mode

Before you begin the brake pad replacement, you need to put your Bronco into Brake Maintenance Mode. This ensures that the electronic systems are properly configured for the task. Follow these steps:

1. Set the ignition to ON.
2. Release the parking brake.
3. Press and hold the gas pedal and parking brake switch simultaneously.
4. Turn the ignition OFF and then back ON within 5 seconds. Continue to hold the gas pedal and the parking brake switch.
5. Turn the ignition to OFF and then release the gas pedal and parking brake switch.

Replacing the Brake Pads

Now that your vehicle is in Brake Maintenance Mode, you can proceed with replacing the brake pads. For this tutorial, we’ll be using the Power Stop Z36-2216 for the front and Power Stop Z36-2414 for the rear brake pads.

Tools and Parts Needed:

- Front Brake Pads: Power Stop Z36-2216
- Rear Brake Pads: Power Stop Z36-2414]
- Basic hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.)
- Jack and jack stands
- Brake cleaner
- Torque wrench

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Lift the Vehicle: Use a jack to lift the Bronco and secure it with jack stands.
2. Remove the Wheels: Use a lug wrench to remove the wheels.
3. Remove the Caliper: Unbolt the brake caliper and carefully set it aside without putting strain on the brake line.
4. Remove Old Brake Pads: Slide the old brake pads out of the caliper bracket.
5. Install New Brake Pads: Insert the new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
6. Reinstall the Caliper: Bolt the caliper back onto the bracket.
7. Reattach the Wheels: Put the wheels back on and tighten the lug nuts.
8. Lower the Vehicle: Carefully lower the Bronco back to the ground.

Exiting Brake Maintenance Mode

Once you’ve replaced the brake pads, it’s essential to exit Brake Maintenance Mode to ensure everything functions correctly. Here’s how:

1. Turn the ignition ON.
2. Press and hold the gas pedal.
3. Pull the parking brake switch and hold it, while continuing to hold the gas pedal.
4. Firmly press the brake pedal for at least 1 second. Release the brake pedal while continuing to hold the gas pedal and the parking brake switch.
5. Turn the ignition OFF and then set it to ON within 5 seconds. Finally, release the gas pedal and the parking brake switch.
